Storms are sudden violent weather events. They cause high winds, flooding, blowing snow, turbulent seas and lightning. Middle-latitude storms move from west to east and usually consist of thunderstorms and tornadoes. There are also tropical cyclones which are smaller than middle latitude storms. They travel westward by the trade wind. Hurricanes are the most destructive tropical cyclones.
